About the Molten Mohawk Niner (and 4 Miler)

The course runs paved roads through Hattiesburg and returns to Thomley's Christmas Tree Farm, where the finish line scene is unlike most races. Runners can take on the longer route or a shorter option, both on pavement. The farm sets the backdrop for what comes after.

Packet pickup happens at the farm the evening before and again race morning. After finishing, people gather around large bonfires while a glassblowing artist works nearby, shaping molten glass into pieces right in front of the crowd. Warm drinks and sweet treats are out for finishers.

Common Questions About the Molten Mohawk Niner (and 4 Miler)

Will I finish last at the Molten Mohawk Niner (and 4 Miler)?

Almost certainly not. Half the 4 Miles field finished slower than 50:42, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:39:42, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Molten Mohawk Niner (and 4 Miler) a good first 4 Miles?

A field of 480 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 4 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Molten Mohawk Niner (and 4 Miler)?

The 4 Miles winner ran 25:04 while the median finisher took 50:42. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
