This race is organized by the Durham Civitan Club, and the cause is woven into the event itself. Proceeds go toward partnerships with Special Olympics, student backpack programs, college scholarships for local high school seniors, and research foundations, among others. The finish line has a bubble station, which gives the end of the race a distinct, slightly absurd energy.
