About the Los Alamos NJROTC Extreme 5k and Fun Run

The course is a true climb. It heads out from Los Alamos and comes straight back, so you run the same terrain twice and know exactly what is coming on the return. The elevation gain is real and sustained, not a single sharp hill. The event supports suicide prevention awareness and raises funds for a local NJROTC cadet program.

The out-and-back route means the start and finish are in the same spot, which keeps logistics simple. Walkers are welcome on the full course, not just the shorter option.

Common Questions About the Los Alamos NJROTC Extreme 5k and Fun Run

Will I finish last at the Los Alamos NJROTC Extreme 5k and Fun Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 38:28, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:26:29, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Los Alamos NJROTC Extreme 5k and Fun Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (75 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Los Alamos NJROTC Extreme 5k and Fun Run?

The 5K winner ran 19:04 while the median finisher took 38:28. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
