This race is built around a cause: ending veteran suicide. It draws runners, walkers, and ruckers across several distance options, so the field tends to be mixed in pace and purpose. The atmosphere reflects that weight without being somber. People show up knowing why they are there, and that gives the morning a different kind of energy than a typical road race.
Early packet pickup runs on the two days before race day, first at the Lorain County Veterans Service Commission and then at the Foundry Bar and Grill on Broad Street. The Foundry also hosts a post-race reception open to runners and spectators alike, with appetizers and drinks waiting when you finish.
