About the Lookin For A Cure Philadelphia 5K

The course runs along the Kelly Drive Bike Path, starting near Lloyd Hall at Boathouse Row. It is a paved path along the river, flat and open, with water on one side and the treeline on the other. The race is tied to a fundraising effort for ocular melanoma research, so many people come as part of a team rather than just as individuals.

Free parking is right at the start, which makes the morning straightforward. The post-race area includes food and drink, and there are age group placements for those racing for time.

Common Questions About the Lookin For A Cure Philadelphia 5K

Will I finish last at the Lookin For A Cure Philadelphia 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 44:00, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:11:18, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Lookin For A Cure Philadelphia 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (110 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Lookin For A Cure Philadelphia 5K?

The 5K winner ran 19:36 while the median finisher took 44:00. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
