About the Longwood Monster Dash

The course runs through Longwood's historic district, starting and finishing at the Historic Civic Center. The neighborhood dates back to the late nineteenth century, and the race exists specifically to fund the restoration of buildings from that era. Costumes are encouraged, and prizes go to the best ones.

Packet pickup is available the evening before the race and again on race morning at the Civic Center. A kids' dash runs just before the main event, and an awards ceremony with a costume contest wraps things up after the last runners finish.

Common Questions About the Longwood Monster Dash

Will I finish last at the Longwood Monster Dash?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 41:25, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:15:28, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Longwood Monster Dash a good first 5K?

A field of 347 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Longwood Monster Dash?

The 5K winner ran 20:24 while the median finisher took 41:25. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
