About the Locke Lake-a-Thon

The route circles Locke Lake, with a shorter option that ends at North Barnstead Beach and a longer option that loops all the way back to the starting point at the Lodge and Pool. You can run it, walk it, or ride a bike. The whole thing happens over a holiday weekend, so the crowd around the lake tends to be bigger than a typical local event.

The shorter route finishes at North Barnstead Beach, where parking is available on Monroe Drive across from Varney Road. The full loop starts and ends at the Lodge on Colony Drive.

Common Questions About the Locke Lake-a-Thon

Will I finish last at the Locke Lake-a-Thon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 4.5 Miles field finished slower than 50:45, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:22:11, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Locke Lake-a-Thon a good first 4.5 Miles?

It is a small race (31 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 4.5 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Locke Lake-a-Thon?

The 4.5 Miles winner ran 19:33 while the median finisher took 50:45. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
