About the Lima Bean 5K

The course starts at Lima Crossroads Church, heads north through the outskirts of the village, and loops back on a rectangle of rural roads. Most of it is flat, but College Street brings a stretch of real hills before the road tips back down toward the finish. The race opens the Lima Crossroads Festival, so there is a full weekend of activity around it.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at a local barbecue restaurant, with a second window race morning at the church. Parking is at the church, with overflow across the road at a nearby park. The organizers ask that you bring a non-perishable food item for the local food pantry.

Common Questions About the Lima Bean 5K

Will I finish last at the Lima Bean 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 31:20, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:06:45, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Lima Bean 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (136 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Lima Bean 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:17 while the median finisher took 31:20. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
