About the LBI Commemorative 18 Mile Run + 12K Run/Walk
The course runs straight up Long Beach Boulevard from Holgate, heading north along the island the whole way. Both distances share the same start and follow the same road, so there is no looping back and no retracing steps. The terrain is flat asphalt, and the prevailing south wind tends to push you along from behind.
The finish for the shorter distance is at the St. Francis Community Center, which also benefits from the entry fees. The open boulevard means you can see a long way ahead of you, which is either motivating or humbling depending on how you feel that day.
