About the Las Calaveritas 10 Miler

The race runs at Hansen Dam, a park with open space and trails in the northeastern corner of the city. The Day of the Dead theme gives the morning a distinct character, and the setting at the dam puts you out in the hills rather than on city streets. Several distance options mean runners at different points in their training can show up together.

Common Questions About the Las Calaveritas 10 Miler

Will I finish last at the Las Calaveritas 10 Miler?

Almost certainly not. Half the 10 Miles field finished slower than 1:37:45, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:40:49, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Las Calaveritas 10 Miler a good first 10 Miles?

It is a small race (92 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 10 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Las Calaveritas 10 Miler?

The 10 Miles winner ran 56:47 while the median finisher took 1:37:45. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
