About the Lake City Running Festival

The course starts and finishes at the city beach, behind a recreation center, so the surroundings are open and waterside the whole way. Several distance options are available, from a short road race up to a half marathon, all on the same out-and-back or loop from the beach. Strollers and pets are not allowed on the course.

After the race, the beach area stays busy with live music, food, and beer and wine. It is open to the public, so the post-race crowd tends to be a mix of finishers and people who just wandered over.

Common Questions About the Lake City Running Festival

Will I finish last at the Lake City Running Festival?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 34:45, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:10:55, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Lake City Running Festival a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (133 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Lake City Running Festival?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 21:34 while the median finisher took 34:45. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
