About the La Jolla Half Marathon, 10K, & 5K

The courses run along the coast and through Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, where the views open up over the ocean. The half marathon takes the longest route through the reserve and down toward La Jolla Shores, while the shorter options cover some of the same coastal ground. The terrain includes real elevation near the reserve, not just flat beachfront.

Packet pickup is the day before at Scripps Park near La Jolla Cove, which also gives you a chance to see the start area before race morning.

Common Questions About the La Jolla Half Marathon, 10K, & 5K

Will I finish last at the La Jolla Half Marathon, 10K, & 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:17:31, and the last recorded finisher came in around 4:53:51, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the La Jolla Half Marathon, 10K, & 5K a good first 13.1 Miles?

With 4,760 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the La Jolla Half Marathon, 10K, & 5K?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:09:16 while the median finisher took 2:17:31. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
