About the Kinzua Bridge Challenge

The course runs out and back along a rails-to-trails path, starting from a trailhead in Mount Jewett. The surface is converted rail bed, so it tends to be smooth and fairly level. All the distance options share the same route, with volunteers stationed along the way to direct runners at their respective turnaround points. The surrounding area is wooded and quiet.

Common Questions About the Kinzua Bridge Challenge

Will I finish last at the Kinzua Bridge Challenge?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:13, and the last recorded finisher came in around 56:13, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Kinzua Bridge Challenge a good first 5K?

It is a small race (45 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Kinzua Bridge Challenge?

The 5K winner ran 20:59 while the median finisher took 33:13. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
