About the Kings Mountain Gateway Trail 5K/10M
The course starts on Quarry Road and quickly moves onto a wide gravel trail. The 5K winds through a series of turns across different named trails, including a loop on top of a plateau before returning to the finish. The longer distance is an out-and-back along the Foote Trail, which skirts an inactive mine, passes scenic lakes, and crosses a private bridge over an interstate highway.
Packet pickup is the evening before at the Trail Office, with race-morning pickup also available at the trailhead starting early. Parking is in a grassy area along the road and in a gravel lot near the trailhead, with volunteers directing traffic. There is an aid station at each course turnaround, plus water at the finish.
