About the Kings County Turkey Trot

The course runs through downtown Hanford, looping around the streets before splitting: one route heads out and back along Douty Street, while the shorter distance turns back to the finish. The start and finish sit between Superior Dairy and Civic Center Park, so there is a real neighborhood anchor to the morning. Kids have their own shorter races before the main start.

Packet pickup runs the two days before Thanksgiving at the Champions corporate office on Douty Street, just steps from the start. Race-morning pickup opens early for those who could not make it earlier. The race benefits a local nonprofit focused on community health in Kings County.

Common Questions About the Kings County Turkey Trot

Will I finish last at the Kings County Turkey Trot?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:49, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:17:35, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Kings County Turkey Trot a good first 5K?

A field of 650 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Kings County Turkey Trot?

The 5K winner ran 16:57 while the median finisher took 35:49. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
