About the Kiawah Island Marathon

The course winds through Kiawah Island, passing beneath live oaks and alongside salt marshes. It is flat coastal terrain, and the surroundings do most of the work: open sky, marsh grass, and the kind of quiet that comes from running somewhere that does not have much traffic. Both the half and the full share the same scenery.

Common Questions About the Kiawah Island Marathon

Will I finish last at the Kiawah Island Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:12:27, and the last recorded finisher came in around 5:23:00, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Kiawah Island Marathon a good first 13.1 Miles?

With 2,903 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Kiawah Island Marathon?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:09:55 while the median finisher took 2:12:27. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
