About the Kettering-Centerville Kiwanis Food on the Run 5k Run/Walk

The course starts outside Alter High School, in front of a knight statue at the entrance. The Alter Cross Country team runs alongside the field, so there are faster runners weaving through at the front. The race benefits food programs for children in the area, and that purpose is visible in how the event is organized and who shows up.

Packet pickup opens on race morning at the high school, well before the start. There is no separate day-before pickup, so plan to arrive early enough to get your bib and find parking.

Common Questions About the Kettering-Centerville Kiwanis Food on the Run 5k Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Kettering-Centerville Kiwanis Food on the Run 5k Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 50:42, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:26:31, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Kettering-Centerville Kiwanis Food on the Run 5k Run/Walk a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (46 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Kettering-Centerville Kiwanis Food on the Run 5k Run/Walk?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 19:25 while the median finisher took 50:42. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
