The course runs mostly on pavement but picks up a stretch of gravel partway through the longer route. The kids' course is a paved loop. Timing is manual rather than chip-based, so expect hand-recorded results. The race is put on by the Kentucky Army National Guard, and the morning runs on a tight military schedule with opening remarks and a national anthem before the first wave goes off.
