About the Keesler Federal Battleship 12K

The course runs point to point, starting on a highway in Spanish Fort and finishing inside Battleship Memorial Park beside the USS Alabama. The route heads mostly straight, with one downhill stretch early on, then flattens out along the highway shoulder. Small American flags line the park entrance for the final push, and the crowd at the finish is a mix of civilians, active military, and veterans.

Packet pickup happens the day before at the GulfQuest National Maritime Museum across the bay in Mobile, where museum admission is included. Race-morning pickup is available near the start, but the organizers are clear that lines get long, so arriving early matters. The start area is in a town center, which helps with space.

Common Questions About the Keesler Federal Battleship 12K

Will I finish last at the Keesler Federal Battleship 12K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 12K field finished slower than 1:23:46, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:31:42, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Keesler Federal Battleship 12K a good first 12K?

With 2,290 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 12K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Keesler Federal Battleship 12K?

The 12K winner ran 41:04 while the median finisher took 1:23:46. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
