About the KC Blind All-Stars Foundation 5K Run & 1-Mile Walk

The course runs along Jersey Creek Trail, starting and finishing on the street beside a school for the blind on the west side of Kansas City. The organizers are upfront that this part of the city is not flat, and this route earns that warning. Expect real hills. The trail itself follows a creek rather than city streets, and the surroundings are quiet for it.

Packet pickup happens on campus the morning of the race, closing before the start. Parking is available on campus until it fills, at which point volunteers direct you to street parking just north of the grounds. Food trucks and community vendors set up after the race on campus.

Common Questions About the KC Blind All-Stars Foundation 5K Run & 1-Mile Walk

Will I finish last at the KC Blind All-Stars Foundation 5K Run & 1-Mile Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:56, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:28, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the KC Blind All-Stars Foundation 5K Run & 1-Mile Walk a good first 5K?

It is a small race (62 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the KC Blind All-Stars Foundation 5K Run & 1-Mile Walk?

The 5K winner ran 22:51 while the median finisher took 37:56. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
