About the JOYRUN

The JOYRUN takes place at Heritage Park, a green open space in Olathe with room for families and dogs on leashes. The course offers a short-distance option alongside a longer route, so people tend to spread across a wide range of paces. The park setting keeps things open and unhurried, and the race benefits a nonprofit that runs programming for teens and adults with disabilities.

Packet pickup is available the evening before at a church in Lenexa, which the organizers strongly encourage. Race-morning pickup opens well before the start at the same shelter in Heritage Park. An after-party follows the race for all participants, with a raffle planned as part of the celebration.

Common Questions About the JOYRUN

Will I finish last at the JOYRUN?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 29:29, and the last recorded finisher came in around 43:28, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the JOYRUN a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (28 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the JOYRUN?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 20:52 while the median finisher took 29:29. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
