About the Joplin RoadRunners' 43rd Annual Pumpkin Run

The course runs out and back on Leggett Road and along the Ruby Jack trail, starting and finishing in a parking lot off the same road. It is flat and shaded, which makes it feel faster than some fall races. The trail section is paved, so there is nothing technical underfoot. Dogs and strollers are welcome on the shorter distances.

The prizes here have a particular character: pumpkins decorated by children at a local early learning center go to top finishers, with smaller ones handed out while supplies last. A local running store draws gift certificates among participants and volunteers at the finish, where a live band plays and vendors sell food and drinks.

Common Questions About the Joplin RoadRunners' 43rd Annual Pumpkin Run

Will I finish last at the Joplin RoadRunners' 43rd Annual Pumpkin Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 2 Miles field finished slower than 22:38, and the last recorded finisher came in around 48:21, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Joplin RoadRunners' 43rd Annual Pumpkin Run a good first 2 Miles?

It is a small race (49 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 2 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Joplin RoadRunners' 43rd Annual Pumpkin Run?

The 2 Miles winner ran 11:56 while the median finisher took 22:38. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
