About the Jingle Dash 5K

The Jingle Dash runs through Robbins Park, so the surroundings are open and parklike rather than street-heavy. Runners are encouraged to show up in holiday costume, and many do, which gives the start line a different energy than most weekend races. Proceeds go toward grants for local nonprofits, so there is a clear community purpose behind the morning.

Packet pickup happens at two spots before race day: a local apothecary in Clarendon Hills the afternoon before, and a community house in Hinsdale the morning before. Both options give you a chance to sort your bib without scrambling on race morning.

Common Questions About the Jingle Dash 5K

Will I finish last at the Jingle Dash 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:24, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:03:41, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Jingle Dash 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (175 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Jingle Dash 5K?

The 5K winner ran 18:48 while the median finisher took 33:24. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
