The course runs through downtown Avon Park at night, past streets decorated with Christmas lights. The route goes through what the organizers describe as a mall lined with holiday decorations, so the surroundings are lit up for the whole run. It starts and finishes at a historic hotel in the center of town, and the evening atmosphere is the main draw.

The race runs after dark, so plan accordingly. There is also a short children's race where kids run against Santa. On race night, the event collects new pajamas for local foster care children, and there are donation bins at the start and finish area near the hotel.
