About the Jackson County Ultras

The course runs through PYOCA Camp and Retreat Center, a wooded property outside Brownstown. The terrain is rugged trail, the kind that earns its difficulty rather than just rolling through fields. Several distance options are available, from a shorter trail run up through a full hundred-kilometer effort, with a relay option for those who want to share the work.

The camp itself is part of the experience. After finishing, runners have access to indoor heated space, post-race showers, and a spread that runs well into the evening: chili, vegan soup, sandwiches, salad, and more. Weekend cabin packages with meals are available if you want to make a full trip of it.

Common Questions About the Jackson County Ultras

Will I finish last at the Jackson County Ultras?

Almost certainly not. Half the 10 Miles field finished slower than 2:13:16, and the last recorded finisher came in around 5:30:03, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Jackson County Ultras a good first 10 Miles?

It is a small race (104 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 10 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Jackson County Ultras?

The 10 Miles winner ran 1:19:02 while the median finisher took 2:13:16. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
