About the Iola Fall Classic Trail Race

The course runs through the Iola Winter Sports Club, mixing singletrack with cross-country ski trails. That combination means rooty, narrow stretches broken up by wider groomed paths, and the terrain shifts enough to keep you paying attention. Expect a wooded feel throughout, with the natural contours of a ski area giving the route some real up and down.

Post-race, there are refreshments and snacks on hand, and kids have their own activities going on nearby, so it works well if you are bringing family. Aid is available on course for the longer distances. Awards go to the top finishers, with age group recognition as well.

Common Questions About the Iola Fall Classic Trail Race

Will I finish last at the Iola Fall Classic Trail Race?

Almost certainly not. Half the 10K field finished slower than 1:11:53, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:40:16, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Iola Fall Classic Trail Race a good first 10K?

It is a small race (28 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 10K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Iola Fall Classic Trail Race?

The 10K winner ran 49:22 while the median finisher took 1:11:53. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
