About the Hoya and the Hare 5K

The course stays entirely on a high school campus, so the route is contained and easy to follow. Dogs are welcome, and plenty of people bring them. The race benefits the school's band program, so the crowd skews toward families connected to the school rather than the racing circuit.

Registration opens on race morning, so you can show up without having sorted everything out beforehand. There is a deadline in the weeks before if you want to lock in your size for anything distributed ahead of time, so earlier is better if that matters to you.

Common Questions About the Hoya and the Hare 5K

Will I finish last at the Hoya and the Hare 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 31:18, and the last recorded finisher came in around 54:05, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Hoya and the Hare 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (90 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Hoya and the Hare 5K?

The 5K winner ran 18:06 while the median finisher took 31:18. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
