About the Hometown Spear It 5K/1K
The course winds through a cemetery after dark, which gives it a character most local 5Ks do not have. Costumes are encouraged, and zombie ones are the clear favorite. There is a zombie costume contest alongside the race, so plenty of people show up more interested in the theatrics than their split times. The whole thing raises money for the high school cross country team.
Check-in opens in the early evening, well before the gun, so there is time to get your costume sorted at the start area. Both distance options start at the same time, which means the cemetery fills up quickly once things get moving.
