Half Marathon

About the Hogsback Half Marathon

The course runs point-to-point along country roads beside the Farmington River, passing through several small towns in the hills of this corner of the state. It is certified and carries a gentle net downhill the whole way, which makes it honest fast without requiring much heroics. The roads are lightly traveled, so you are mostly running through quiet rural landscape.

Bibs are available on the morning of the race, but registration closes before that day, so you need to be in before you show up. A post-race spread follows the finish, and an awards ceremony with raffle prizes wraps up the morning. Proceeds go to a nonprofit that funds shelter animal rescues.

Common Questions About the Hogsback Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the Hogsback Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:08:15, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:27:44, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Hogsback Half Marathon a good first 13.1 Miles?

A field of 202 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Hogsback Half Marathon?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:07:48 while the median finisher took 2:08:15. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
