About the 48th Annual Hill & Dale 8 Miler

The course runs through Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park, following roads and paved paths that roll through genuine hills and valleys. This is not flat terrain. The park is wooded and quiet, and the route earns its name: there are real climbs here, and real descents between them.

GPS alone will not get you to the start, and the organizer says so plainly. The approach follows a sequence of surface roads to the park entrance, then turns in along Grassy Lake Road to the start and finish area. Registration is handled at a pavilion near the line. Race-morning packet pickup is available, but there is no on-site registration.

Common Questions About the 48th Annual Hill & Dale 8 Miler

Will I finish last at the 48th Annual Hill & Dale 8 Miler?

Almost certainly not. Half the 8 Miles field finished slower than 1:23:57, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:15:55, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 48th Annual Hill & Dale 8 Miler a good first 8 Miles?

A field of 263 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 8 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 48th Annual Hill & Dale 8 Miler?

The 8 Miles winner ran 42:43 while the median finisher took 1:23:57. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
