About the Heroes Run

The course runs through Strawtown Koteewi Park on crushed limestone trails that are well maintained and wide enough for strollers. The terrain is gentle rather than technical, so it works for runners and walkers alike. Dogs are welcome on leash, and you will see plenty of them. Proceeds go to the county sheriff's office community foundation.

Packet pickup is race morning, and parking at the park is plentiful. The start and finish are near the sledding hill, past the archery and equestrian areas, so give yourself a few extra minutes to find the right lot if it is your first time out there.

Finish-Time Stats

Going by the 2025 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

Common Questions About the Heroes Run

Will I finish last at the Heroes Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 39:58, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:06:28, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Heroes Run a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 255 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Heroes Run?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 16:36 while the median finisher took 39:58. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
