About the Helvetia 10k Mountain Run

The course winds through country roads and trails in a small Swiss settlement tucked into the West Virginia hills. It is genuinely hilly terrain, the kind that earns the word mountain in the name, with rural surroundings that stay quiet and unhurried throughout. A shorter walk option runs alongside, and there is a kids course for the youngest runners.

Common Questions About the Helvetia 10k Mountain Run

Will I finish last at the Helvetia 10k Mountain Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 10K field finished slower than 1:00:19, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:30:17, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Helvetia 10k Mountain Run a good first 10K?

It is a small race (46 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 10K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Helvetia 10k Mountain Run?

The 10K winner ran 38:30 while the median finisher took 1:00:19. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
