About the Hatfield and McCoy Races
Several distance options start in and around South Williamson, with the courses pulling runners through a river valley tied to the famous feuding families. The terrain varies by race: one half marathon goes over Blackberry Mountain, which means a real climb, while the river road option stays down along the water and runs flatter throughout.
Packet pickup happens the evening before at a high school, where a pasta dinner runs at the same time and costumed characters representing the Hatfields and McCoys are around to greet people. Bus transportation from downtown Williamson and from Matewan shuttles runners to the start lines, with return shuttles after finishing.

Finish-Time Stats
Going by the 2026 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

The Hatfield and McCoy Races has been held every year since at least 2021. That is as far back as RunSignup's records for this race go, so it may well be older.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Jul 27, 2026.
