About the Harvest Run

The course winds through the streets of Leesburg on Thanksgiving morning, and the route is flat throughout. It has the feel of a neighborhood run, the kind of thing people come back to year after year before sitting down to their holiday meal. Music plays at the start area, which keeps the mood easy.

The start is near the tag office on Starksville Ave N, and parking is available close by. This is a Thanksgiving morning race, so most people are back home well before the turkey hits the table.

Common Questions About the Harvest Run

Will I finish last at the Harvest Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 28:29, and the last recorded finisher came in around 55:31, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Harvest Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (80 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Harvest Run?

The 5K winner ran 16:25 while the median finisher took 28:29. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
