About the Gunselman's Leprechaun Chase 5k Run/Walk

The race starts and finishes at a high school track, which gives the start area a clean, open feel. The course goes out into the surrounding streets before returning, and both distance options share that same home base. It benefits Empowering Epilepsy, an organization that connects people with epilepsy to care and peer support, so the cause is woven into why people show up.

Packet pickup runs on the two evenings before race day, one at a local organization's office and one at Gunselman's Tavern, the bar that sponsors the race. Race-morning pickup and registration open in the high school gym. After the race, the party moves to the tavern, with Irish music and post-race food and drinks included.

Common Questions About the Gunselman's Leprechaun Chase 5k Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Gunselman's Leprechaun Chase 5k Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:39, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:39, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Gunselman's Leprechaun Chase 5k Run/Walk a good first 5K?

A field of 301 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Gunselman's Leprechaun Chase 5k Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 16:16 while the median finisher took 33:39. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
