About the Groundhog Run 2027
The course runs entirely underground inside SubTropolis, a working limestone mine beneath Kansas City. The temperature down there stays steady year-round, so you are racing in short sleeves in the middle of winter while the surface is doing whatever it wants. The roads are paved and flat, and the walls are rock. It is genuinely unlike any other road race setting.
Packet pickup runs the two days before the race, first at a local running store and then at the Ability KC campus. Race-morning pickup is also available at SubTropolis. Parking is across the street at Ameristar Casino, with shuttle buses running to the entrance. Plan to arrive early enough to park, ride over, and get settled before your wave goes off.
