About the Greensboro Half Marathon

The half marathon runs a couple of loops through downtown Greensboro, which keeps the course spectator-friendly since people can catch you more than once. The organizers designed the loops specifically to route around the steeper terrain, so while there are some hills, the overall profile is gentle enough that it draws a lot of first-timers alongside runners chasing a personal best.

Packet pickup happens the two evenings before the race at a local running store and a second location announced closer to the event. There is no race-morning pickup, so plan accordingly. The start and finish area sits near a full-service grocery store in the neighborhood. After you finish, hot breakfast is available at the finish line, and a brewery is among the post-race sponsors.

Common Questions About the Greensboro Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the Greensboro Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:08:12, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:15:47, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Greensboro Half Marathon a good first 13.1 Miles?

A field of 541 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Greensboro Half Marathon?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:06:37 while the median finisher took 2:08:12. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
