About the Great Island 5K
The course starts and finishes at Great Island Common, where the land meets the tidal water between New Castle and the mainland. From there it winds through the historic roads of this small island town, where the streets are narrow and the views open toward the harbor. It is a road race with a genuine sense of place.
There is food at the finish, and a raffle that draws a real crowd. Kids fun runs happen alongside the main event, so the start area tends to fill up with families as much as runners.
