About the Grand Prairie Turkey Trot 5K

The course is flat throughout, which makes it a straightforward morning for anyone showing up on Thanksgiving. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome, with a request to start toward the back. There is a youth fun run for younger kids on a separate, shorter course, so families with children of different ages can both participate.

Pre-race packet pickup is at a local nutrition shop the evening before the race. Race-morning pickup opens at the start location before the warm-up begins. Parking is free. Sweet potato and pumpkin pie are available at the finish line after you cross.

Common Questions About the Grand Prairie Turkey Trot 5K

Will I finish last at the Grand Prairie Turkey Trot 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 42:32, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:14:07, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Grand Prairie Turkey Trot 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (143 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Grand Prairie Turkey Trot 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:44 while the median finisher took 42:32. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
