About the Gibbet Hill Cattle Run 2026
The course runs cattle trails around Gibbet Hill, Groton's most prominent peak, so there is real climbing involved. You are also navigating what the organizers call castle ruins, and the trail keeps you honest the whole way. The race is structured as a team relay, with each person running a couple of legs, so the effort is shared but the terrain is not softened.
The finish is a full spread: a barbecue put together by restaurant chefs, cold beer from a regional brewery, and live music. Spectators can buy tickets to join the post-race party, so it is worth telling your crew to come along. There is also a kids' option that runs a single loop of the course solo, and a shorter obstacle-style mini run for the youngest kids around a retention pond.
