About the Gallop & Gorge 8K

Weaver Street Market anchors both ends of the route, which loops through the residential neighborhoods surrounding downtown Carrboro. The streets give it a genuine town-center feel, with familiar storefronts giving way to quieter blocks before looping back. It is a good Thanksgiving morning run through a walkable, compact downtown.

Bib pickup runs at Fleet Feet on East Main Street in the days before the race, with race-morning pickup available there as well before the start. Parking takes some planning: the lots directly beside the Weaver Street Market and Harris-Teeter are off-limits, but several free public options are scattered around downtown. Food pantry donation boxes are out at pickup and on race morning for anyone who wants to bring something.

Common Questions About the Gallop & Gorge 8K

Will I finish last at the Gallop & Gorge 8K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 8K field finished slower than 48:39, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:33:13, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Gallop & Gorge 8K a good first 8K?

With 1,716 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 8K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Gallop & Gorge 8K?

The 8K winner ran 24:36 while the median finisher took 48:39. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
