Frosty 5K

Helena, MT

Registration openAnnual since at least 2020

About the Frosty 5K

The course runs a single loop through the Mountain View Meadows neighborhood, starting and finishing at the race sponsor's building on Alice Street. Cold weather is expected, and runners tend to show up in holiday costumes. Hot chocolate and water are at the finish, and holiday music plays throughout.

Packet pickup happens at a local brewery in the days before the race, with additional pickup at the start building the day before and on race morning. Race-morning pickup runs until just before the start, so there is flexibility if you are coming in from out of town.

Common Questions About the Frosty 5K

Will I finish last at the Frosty 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 39:34, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:17:54, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Frosty 5K a good first 5K?

A field of 299 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Frosty 5K?

The 5K winner ran 18:30 while the median finisher took 39:34. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
