About the Friends of the Parks Half Marathon, 10k, & 5k

The course runs through a lake park complex, using bike trails as its backbone. Shorter distances stay entirely on those trails, while longer distances branch out onto city streets. The terrain is mixed, so expect some variety underfoot rather than a single surface from start to finish. The lake park setting gives the route a natural feel even when the streets pull you away from it.

Packet pickup happens the evening before at a local church. If that does not work, you can send someone in your place or pick up on race morning before the start window closes. Race-morning pickup is available, so arriving without your packet is not a crisis.

Common Questions About the Friends of the Parks Half Marathon, 10k, & 5k

Will I finish last at the Friends of the Parks Half Marathon, 10k, & 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 41:46, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:54, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Friends of the Parks Half Marathon, 10k, & 5k a good first 5K?

It is a small race (90 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Friends of the Parks Half Marathon, 10k, & 5k?

The 5K winner ran 21:48 while the median finisher took 41:46. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
