About the Freakin Freezin 5K - Winston Salem

This one leans into winter on purpose. The name says it plainly, and the course plays along, with cold conditions part of the appeal rather than something to apologize for. The organizers use chip timing from start to finish, so your net time is clean regardless of where you line up.

Packet pickup is race-morning only, opening about an hour before the gun. There is no separate day to collect your bib, so plan to arrive with a little buffer before the start.

Common Questions About the Freakin Freezin 5K - Winston Salem

Will I finish last at the Freakin Freezin 5K - Winston Salem?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:15, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:41, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Freakin Freezin 5K - Winston Salem a good first 5K?

It is a small race (51 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Freakin Freezin 5K - Winston Salem?

The 5K winner ran 16:51 while the median finisher took 37:15. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
