About the Founders Half Marathon
The course runs out and back along the C&O Canal Towpath, a flat dirt path that follows the canal through trees and quiet water. It passes the same water stops twice on the way out and back, so the aid stations feel evenly spread. The surface is packed dirt, not pavement, which changes the feel underfoot compared to a typical road half.
The race starts from Carderock Recreation Area, reached via the Clara Barton Parkway. Parking is in a lot at the end of the road, with overflow in nearby lots a short walk away. After finishing, there is a full breakfast spread waiting, with bagels, hot chocolate, coffee, bananas, and more.
