About the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon

The course runs along the Blue Ridge Parkway and earns its reputation honestly. The climbing starts early and keeps returning, with elevation gain that makes this one of the most demanding road marathons anywhere. There are several distance options, so the mountain is accessible at different commitment levels, but none of them let you off easy.

The finish is in downtown Roanoke, and it has a festival feel to it. Local craft beer is part of the post-race scene, which makes the end of a hard day on the hills feel like a proper payoff.

Common Questions About the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon

Will I finish last at the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:38:20, and the last recorded finisher came in around 5:23:55, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon a good first 13.1 Miles?

With 857 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:18:38 while the median finisher took 2:38:20. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
