About the 2026 Fisherman's Picnic Trail Run
Pincushion Mountain sits a short drive north of Grand Marais, and the trails are wide and mowed grass for the most part, with dirt underfoot and occasional exposed roots or rocks. The shorter course stays on the nordic ski trails, rolling and grassy throughout. The longer course dips onto the Superior Hiking Trail, where terrain gets rockier and more technical. There are real climbs.
Packet pickup runs in the window before the first wave of races. The course is a fundraiser for the club that maintains these trails for cross-country skiing in winter, so the people at the start tend to know the mountain well.
