First Day 5k

Summerville, SC

Registration openAnnual since at least 2019

Entry is $45 now and rises to $50 after Nov 30, 2026, so registering before then saves $5.

About the First Day 5k

The course runs through Cane Bay Plantation on paved multi-use trails, starting and finishing at an elementary school parking lot. You head out briefly on a main road, with deputies posted at the intersections, then duck through a couple of tunnels on the trail system before looping back. The route is flat throughout.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at Fleet Feet Carnes Crossroads, with a second window on race morning at the school. Coffee and hot cocoa are available at the finish, along with a treat.

Common Questions About the First Day 5k

Will I finish last at the First Day 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 36:37, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:02:57, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the First Day 5k a good first 5K?

A field of 227 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the First Day 5k?

The 5K winner ran 17:24 while the median finisher took 36:37. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
