About the First Bank Fall 5K & 10K Run

The course runs through Fincastle's historic downtown, so the surroundings are old brick and quiet streets rather than a park path. The race draws students alongside adults, with schools competing for participation trophies, which gives the finish area a different energy than most small-town road races.

Packet pickup happens at a bank branch in Daleville on several evenings the week before the race. On race day, packets are available inside the gym at the middle school where the race starts, and results are posted at a running store's tent near the starting line.

Common Questions About the First Bank Fall 5K & 10K Run

Will I finish last at the First Bank Fall 5K & 10K Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:57, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:08:22, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the First Bank Fall 5K & 10K Run a good first 5K?

A field of 590 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the First Bank Fall 5K & 10K Run?

The 5K winner ran 17:38 while the median finisher took 37:57. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
