About the Finger Lakes Festival of Races (18M,13.1M,10K& 5K)

The course runs on the Catharine Valley Trail, a converted rail trail that stays smooth and easy to follow. The route heads out with a gentle uphill grade, then returns on a slight downhill back toward the finish. Several distance options make it work for a short effort or a longer training run. Fall foliage is often at its peak along the trail corridor.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at a location in Montour Falls, with race-morning pickup available at a small park on Main Street. After finishing, there is food and drinks at the post-race celebration, and a nearby brewery is part of the picture for those who want one more reason to linger.

Common Questions About the Finger Lakes Festival of Races (18M,13.1M,10K& 5K)

Will I finish last at the Finger Lakes Festival of Races (18M,13.1M,10K& 5K)?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:00:25, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:57:19, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Finger Lakes Festival of Races (18M,13.1M,10K& 5K) a good first 13.1 Miles?

It is a small race (150 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Finger Lakes Festival of Races (18M,13.1M,10K& 5K)?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:29:13 while the median finisher took 2:00:25. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
